Subject: Kflop-no LEDs on & no USB connection
Hi, I am abut nervous and careful about this post to the outcome.:( my issue is that I got my kflop mounted, software installed, plugged in under USB power and had it working. There was a green light and communication. Got to play with k motion for a bit to explore. I installed my dedicated mini computer power supply to jp1 to get away from USB power and unplugged the jumper for USB power (it's one, or the other, but not both. Right?) The power supply is new surplus and works (has power), my board has power at across pin 1&26 (of the 26 pin header), but the leds on the board are now off and there is no USB connection available in , kmotion, hardware manager or any recognition of it being installed when there used to be. Of course no hot plugging, unplugging.... I hope I didn't kill it:( Thanks for your help!!!! Rob

Hello Rob,

Two thing I would check on:
First is go back to the way you had it connected originally to see if that still works.
If so you can breath a bit easier.

You may have a funny power up on that power supply that confuses the K flop.  You might try a switch between the power supply and the Kflop (DC connection).  That way once the power supply powers up fully, you can switch on the DC so the K flop doesn't have to contend with any power up irregularities.  You may also need to install a resistor on the output of the power supply so it maintains a minimum load to keep the switch mode regulators happy.  Choose a resistor to give you a load of about 5% of the max capacity of the power supply or whatever the specs say is the minimum load.  Watch the resistor wattage requirements for your load.

Good Luck,

AZ

Hi Rob,

To test KFLOP disconnect everything and apply a good source of +5V if the LEDs don't flash at least once then there is a problem with KFLOP.

Hi Tom,
Thanks, I worked on trying to get anything out of the LEDs and saw no flash. USB power, multiple cables. My pc power supply is good and was also tried over multiple molex plugs. (Of course no hot plugging/unplugging)
I think I may have killed the kflop. I will give it another go when I get home.
What can i do if it is dead?
I am really dead set on working with this kflop.
Thanks!!

Rob
